Support for Families & Carers
in the Illawarra

Clear communication and collaboration with the people who care about you, so support stays consistent and aligned.

Support worker with an older man and his family at home

Behind most people who receive support is a family member or carer holding a lot together: the appointments, the worries, the phone calls, the gaps. Good support should make their life easier too.

Support for families and carers means working with you, not around you. Clear communication about how things are going. Consistency you can plan around. A support worker who understands the whole picture, respects the family’s role, and shares the load rather than adding to it.

Communication you can rely on

You will always know what is happening. We agree at the start how and how often you want updates, whether that is a quick message after each visit, a weekly summary, or a call when something changes. If I notice something you should know about, you hear it from me promptly and honestly.

Consistency for everyone

When the same person turns up every time, routines hold, trust builds, and family members can step back a little knowing the support is solid. That reliability is often the difference between a carer coping and a carer burning out.

Shared goals and shared understanding

Families sometimes have a different view of what matters than the person receiving support. Part of my role is to help everyone pull in the same direction: listening to the person first, involving the family where they want to be involved, and keeping goals and routines clear for all of us.

Respite that actually rests you

Regular, dependable support gives carers real time back. Knowing your family member is with someone reliable, doing things they enjoy, means you can use that time to rest, work, or simply have a life of your own for a few hours.

Every visit can include

  • An agreed communication plan: what you hear, how, and how often
  • Honest updates when something changes
  • Regular, predictable visits you can plan around
  • Involvement in goal setting where the person wants it
  • Practical time back for carers during support hours
  • One point of contact, not a roster of strangers

How it works

Getting started is simple.

01

Build your plan

A short questionnaire covers your needs, goals, routines and preferences. Fill it in privately or together, whichever feels more comfortable.

02

Align expectations

We have a relaxed conversation to clarify the details, answer your questions, and make sure we're both clear on what good support looks like for you.

03

Ongoing support

Support starts, one-on-one, with clear communication and the flexibility to adjust as your needs change over time.

Questions

About this support.

Can I be the main contact instead of my family member?

Yes, where that is appropriate and the person receiving support agrees. We respect their choices first and set up communication around that.

Do you replace other services we already have?

No. I work alongside existing supports and health professionals, and I am happy to coordinate with them where it helps.

How quickly can support start?

It depends on availability, but once we have talked and agreed on a plan it can usually begin within a couple of weeks. Get in touch to check current availability.

Ready to talk it through?

Get in touch for a relaxed chat about what you need. No pressure, no obligation.
